Heat my hands!

Does anyone have experience with heated gloves?

Are they practical? Efficient? Safe? How are the batteries? Do you have to charge them ridiculously often? Is there anyway to regulate the temperature? How do they compare with regular gloves in terms of heat retention? Are they a better alternative to those multi-use hand warmer pack things?

Tell me about your experience with them! (And perhaps other heated accessories...)

(Also, what vendors should I be looking into? Do they basically use the same heating mechanism? Why are some so much more expensive?)

I have a pair of Gerbings T5 heated gloves and they are awesome.

Gerbings makes a line of battery powered gloves as well. I'd say anything from Gerbings is a good bet as far as quality and warmth is concerned.

I had a pair of USB heated gloves with finger holes and pop-top mitten style "finger hoodies" if you will. I think I got em off ebay. They're still around, and still work, but I don't use them much. They did get nice and toasty, but only seemed to heat my hands in the location of the warmers, so my fingertips were still rather cold. The cord also got to be annoying at times. Those were some good times though. That's all the experience I have with heated gloves, but thought I'd share for fun though. :)

I have to ask why.

I mean heated gloves are an extreme thing. As a Minnesotan ice fisherman I have several gloves I wear, and none of them are heated.

In my experience if you do anything physically, your hands will sweat, and you will be soaked quickly, and be frozen if you take them off.

I have a pair of Ice Armor gloves that are literally the warmest thing you can wear on your hands. In fact I don't even wear them most of the time. If you wear them all the time, even if it's -15 and you're out there unprotected on the ice, your hand will sweat. Sweat is death when it's that cold, so you have to take them off.

I wear them when my hands get cold, and take them off when they get warm. There are no warmer gloves.

I also put them on when I get a fish, because they are waterproof, and you can literally reach right into the frozen hole and pull the fish out, and your hands stay dry.

Also they are very pliable, I mean you would never expect them to be what they are. Very dexterous.

I've never had heated gloves but I do use heated insoles in my boots on the coldest days of the winter. They are the kind that heat up by themselves and they are one use only. But they are great because I live in Syracuse and have to walk through a lot of uncleared snow for my job and they really keep my feet warm . You get them in camping/outdoors stores.

I've used battery heated socks to warm my feet up to help me fall asleep. They were actually pretty subtle, in terms of the heat, but it was so much nicer and more effective than just lying under the blankets waiting for my body to adjust. I'm not sure how I lost them :(
