September Honeymoon in the Philippines?

Philippines in September? My fiance and I our planning our honeymoon and we were thinking about going to the Philippines this September. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this is a good idea for a honeymoon?

Looks like September is the end of the rainy season, which could be an issue (but it also seems that such general weather patterns don't apply to all parts of the country). While we don't have an itinerary, I imagine we will spend some time in north Luzon and then probably Boracay (or other beach areas). My fiance is particularly worried about the weather and typhoons.

Assuming we did go, any general tips on places that would be fun/romantic for honeymooners? We would want to do a mix of beaches/water and inland/caves/mountains. Neither of us are SCUBA certified and don't plan on being certified either.

What kind of budget are you on? Although not quite what it was a few years ago pre-management change, the El Nido resorts are still fantastic.

Are you from the Philippines? I would try to avoid spending too much time on Luzon and just head for the beaches.

Response by poster: We are both American and assume money is not an issue.

Wife and I did Boracay in September last year. There were some monsoon showers but it's not a problem, typhoons aren't as common that late in the rainy season. I can tell you North Luzon is one of the worst places to be if a late-year typhoon does roll through; something about Cagayan Valley just pulls typhoons towards itself, and Batanes is pretty much battered by typhoons all the time.

For romantic things to do I do NOT recommend moonlight walks along White Beach in Boracay. The shore is positively spammy with very pushy vendors and relentless panhandling children. I'm not sure if the resorts along other smaller beaches are less bothersome.

Are you *interested* in SCUBA certification? Because I did a "Discover SCUBA" package while I was in Mindoro a few years back and I remember they had some program where you could do the book work for your cert at your leisure and then do all your cert dives in the Philippines. I ended up not pursuing it because diving didn't agree with my ears, but it seemed like a tempting option because the diving there was absolutely gorgeous compared to what's available to me in CA.

At the very least if you don't have medical reasons not to, do Discover SCUBA....I was miserable the whole time because my ears wouldn't equalize but I have no regrets because the things you can see underwater in the Philippines are incredible.

My favorite thing I've done in the Philippines (other than diving) was the underground river tour on Palawan. SO COOL. I really liked Palawan a lot in general. The drive to actually get to the underground river was almost as cool as the actual river.
