Name this piece of violin music

What is this piece of vaguely remembered classical music? The piece, or one movement of it, begins with an extended, ascending, dramatic violin solo that's a good minute long, and I think is titled something in the key of E. Any guesses?

Maybe something by Arvo Pärt? Or Alan Hovaness?

On preview, I see titled in the key of E. I thought you had perfect pitch, and were shooting in the dark with no real description.

How fast is it?

What's the instrumentation -- full orchestra, string orchestra, quartet, something else?

What time signature/meter is it -- duple, triple, 15/16? (I'm looking at you, Queensryche...)

Did it sound modern, older, full/lush, spare/light, harmonious, discordant?

Is it mostly major or minor?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was "Zigeunerweisen" by Sarasate :)

Title doesn't match, but the first thing I thought of was The Lark Ascending?

Was also thinking the Mendelssohn but am thinking also of something similar, more modern. Let me stew a bit.

Oops, I should have read more closely. I didn't see the "violin solo" bit. I'm sorry!

The opening note of the violin solo is not quite a minute, but what about the Adagio of the Bach Violin Concerto in e major?

I am reminded of the Saint-Saëns violin concerto no. 3 where the violin solo begins somewhat more forcefully than usual, although it doesn't take as long as it does in the Sibelius concerto for the orchestra to really have a life of its own.

Response by poster: I listened to all of the above, and unfortunately it's none of them. My thanks for your suggestions. I wish I were able to provide more information or description, but I'm afraid I can't.

Are you quite sure it's solo violin and not another stringed instrument? Because if so the Elgar Cello Concerto In E minor might be a candidate.

Let me try that link to the Elgar again.
