Is there anywhere I can rent a microfilm scanner in Melbourne, Australia? I'd need it for one or two days.

Have you seen these guys http://www.microfilm.net.au/equipment.shtml?rental_equipment ? They're not in Melbourne but they seem happy to service any part of Australia.

A long time ago I used to have dealings with Tech-Rentals in NZ. Tech-Rentals have operations in Australia. At the time they had a range of opto-photographic gear alongside their more normal oscilloscopes etc. Might be worth asking them http://www.techrentals.com.au/Branch_Find.asp .
