Grandfather Mountain Highland Games 2011 lodging recommendations, please!
I'm planning a trip to western NC this year to pick up an heirloom piece of furniture from family. I want to combine this with a trip to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games as a surprise for my SO, who has attended the NY Games for many years.
I've checked out the Games website, but it still has the 2010 info. I can call them for tix info, but my real question here involves where to stay.
I'm thinking of either camping or rustic lodging. There seems to be a lot of resources on the site for places, but I'm looking for recommendations from anyone here who may have experience. We are on a really tight budget, and not afraid of roughing it. Specific questions:
What campsites are close to the Games that you liked?
What is the general atmosphere during the event(s)?
Is traffic a big deal, or is it easy to get around during the weekend?
Any other info that I should know about?
This is a new thing to me, and I'd just like to know what to expect, so that I can make this an awesome experience for my sweetie.
Many thanks, MeFites!
