I know this sounds ridiculous.

My aunt-in-law is looking for the name of a science fiction novel (probably published during the early 1970s) with the following description: "A hippy girl who wears overalls travels to a planet where the inhabitants are simian. There is no death on this planet. She also has two squirrels."

Her other requests had slight details wrong, but were generally pretty accurate. Google's not pulling up anything for me on this one at all. Thanks for the help if you can crack it!

I don't know the book, but I know who I would ask: the people at rec.arts.sf.written. They are very good at identifying SF stories from descriptions such as you give.
