Bookfilter: Help me find a book that was around in the late 80s/early 90s - think 'Hatchet', but with a female protagonist.

I vaguely remember a few things about the book. The girl at the beginning of the book was overweight, unhappy about the way she was treated because of it, and decided to run away. She stopped at a camping supply store on her way out, hitchhiked (?) to a remote lake, took a canoe, and paddled out to a uninhabited island. She thought there was a cabin there, but it had burnt down. And I believe her canoe floated away.

The rest of the book describes her attempt to survive on very basic supplies. Happy ending, when she is finally.. either rescued, or waits for the lake to freeze for her to return to civilization. Oh, and now she's skinny. But, she has regained her self worth, so I can forgive the 'Hey, get motivated and you can lose weight' proselytizing :)

I -loved- the book in Junior high, and would desperately like to read it again. Thanks!
