Guv'ner and Jenny Mae

Double-barreled nineties independent musician question: what ever happened to the band Guv'ner and the singer Jenny Mae? Guv'ner's third album was re-released in 2003, but as far as I know there hasn't been a new peep out of either of these acts since 1998. Does anybody know anything different?

Merge records says that Spectral Worship is not only Guv'ner's most recent release but "sadly their last", so I wouldn't expect anything more from them.

Pumpkin used to make maternity clothes but I haven't heard anything about that in a while and their site (pumpkinmaternity.com) now redirects to another maternity line.

She used to own a rather large store in SOHO--don't know if the site it redirects to is the same but with a diff name or if PM went under but you might want to email them and ask.

If I'm not mistaken (and I may well be), there's a Guv'ner song on one of the never-aired episodes of Sifl & Olly, available from the creators' website.

jtron, my former roommate had the S&O "lost season" DVD and there was a Guv'ner song on it, but I knew the song so it must be off their first album, which is the only one I had.

I'd email Merge.

Wow, I never thought I'd see a Jenny Mae question in AskMe. I was one of the few fans of Vibralux (apart from the buddies of the band members) and went to see them live at every opportunity. Her "solo" CDs had some nice spots, but I missed all the Vibralux songs and sounds.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question. I'm not sure what became of her after the 90s. There are at least two people that might have an answer though:

1) Try emailing Bela via the Anyway Records site. His label put out her two CDs (along with some earlier 7"s). They used to be friends but for all I know they hate each other now.

2) Try emailing Joel over at cringe.com (the webmaster at cringe dot com address listed over there should work). While he always thought that Vibralux was one of the worst bands around, he often knows the skinny on Columbus and ex-Columbus musicians.

If you find out an answer, please post here or email me. Thanks!

Response by poster: This from Bela at Anyway Records, on Jenny Mae:

Thanks for your interest, unfortunately Jenny has done very little recording since her last record. She recorded a song for a John Denver tribute record and has done some occasional 4-track recordings but nothing very serious. She has had some very tough years since Don't Wait up For Me came out but hopefully in the coming year if she can regain her health we are hoping to record a new album. At the moment she is living back in Columbus after some time spent in Miami. Please keep track of the website for any further developments.
