Help me find this book

Hello Hive Mind, I'm looking for the title/author of a non-fiction book I read in the last few years. Here's what I remember: Retired professor returns to college as a freshman... Goes to a school that teaches a "Great Books" curriculum, where practically every class is a seminar/discussion group. The school encourages every student to participate in intramural athletics, so the old "freshman" joins the rowing team. The book is the story of his year at the school. Thanks for your help!

Actually, it's probably not that. He's not a retired professor, and I doubt he joined the rowing team.

Not sure if this will help narrow it down, but St. John's does a "Great Books" curriculum.

Not "My freshman year". I've read that book - same basic idea but the details are almost entirely different.
