I want to make a DIY wine rack

I want to make a DIY wine rack, preferably holding at least 10 bottles. I invite you to tell me your best DIY wine rack ideas, bonus points if you've actually built it. Hanging on the wall is a possibility, but I'm slightly more interested in racks that would sit on a table or on the floor against the wall.

quick and crude, cut a row of 5 4 or 4 1/2 inch holes in two sheets of plywood and mount them in an open front box. I don't know the extent of your woodworking skills or tool selection, but premade wine rack lattice is also available for putting in a wall cabinet, if you feel kinda cabinetmaker-y

Best answer: I saw this a couple years ago and thought it was really cool looking. Seems pretty easy, plenty expandable, and would fit wherever you wanted it to fit.

It is not the "classiest" looking wine rack out there, but it gets points for being DIY and sweet.

Just stack up some terra cotta flue liners.

Best answer: 4 inch PVC pipe is really quite cheap ( Check Home Depot/ Lowes for options, prices) and you can buy it at most builder supply/hardware stores for less than $10 for a ten foot section. It is easily cut with a hand saw, and can be painted, but I don't know how well the paint would hold up in that application. Some of it comes in a bright white. In it's original (unpainted) state it can be glued together (along the sides) with a two part cleaner/glue combo that plumbers use. It smells like hell while you are gluing it, so do it out side, or with very good ventilation.

My dad made one from a wooden crate into which he built a lattice. He didn't attempt to improve on the rough cut crate except to coat it all with polyurethane. Didn't look too bad.

I made a simple box rack, it looks something like this one but I just used 10 or 12 inch wide planks to make mine. I think I based my box on a milk crate... screwed them together, but any method of joining is fine I guess... depends on how much time and money you want to spend.

I would think about making one out of aluminum flat bar now, similar idea but instead of solid planks, have slats... there are a pile of instructables worth looking through for ideas as well.
