Help me document my new england wedding for cheap! See details inside.

I am getting married in September in Rhode Island (thanks to some of you who have already helped me with my wedding planning!)

I am now looking for a videographer and photographer that you could recommend and has good prices.

We are getting married in Providence, RI but could defininitely work with someone in MA or NH also. Thank you so much for your help and recommendations.

Best answer: We used this guy. Super professional, quiet, unobtrusive, friendly, and he takes one hell of a photo... I mean magazine-shoot quality. He went to RISD, for crying out loud. Very, very reasonable rates.

He is from Portugal, and his english is still a bit shaky... but he works with his wife, who's also an excellent photographer, and her english is better. (His site has a song that autoplays, so turn down the sound before you click the link.)

Might be helpful if you posted a range for what you think are good prices, as this could vary very much person to person.

Response by poster: The range would be 400-800, preferably lower of course. Thanks so much.

I can't help you with photographers, but I have a tip in case you need to economize and don't think you'll get enough pictures from the reception. We used disposable cameras as table favors at our reception and asked that they be returned so we could get them developed (this was before digital cameras were common). We got some priceless pictures of friends and family that way.

Ditto the disposable cameras - if you look around, you can find deals on them (but be careful for expired film, unless you're a fan of expired film effects. And make sure there's enough light in your venue for such point-n-shoot pics, because you might end up with a lot of rolls of really dark shots.

Of course, getting a bunch of cameras is only half the cost - then you have to develop it all.

If there's flexibility in your budget, stretch the film budget. Food is delicious, music is fun, but photos last forever. Skimping on wedding photos means you'll have fewer or less impressive photos, or you might not be able to figure out who is in the pictures.

And after the wedding, when thanking everyone for coming, remind them to send you any pictures they took, no matter how goofy.

Yeah honestly, that range is really low for anyone that is a working professional. You might find someone on craigslist that is looking to start shooting weddings. Caveat being you get what you pay for of course but I understand, it's not easy paying for these things.

If you dont find anyone outright on craigslist you could put out an ad yourself and say this is what we can pay and in exchange you can use our photos for advertising/stock photography. You might get a working professional to bite on that but you would need to fill out a model release form for him/her.

I agree that it's going to be very, very, very difficult to find anyone near pro for that kind of money.

Lots of people are amateur photogs these days, though, with great digital cameras. Why not set up a pro wedding Flickr account and pass out the log in info to your guests? Reg cost + printing uploading instructions = Less than $50 (depending on how fancy you want the instruction copies to be).

Why not hire a pro for portraits/formal group pics (that'll might be in your price range) and leave the party & ceremony documenting to your guests?

(I fail at writing & proofing: That might be in your price range)
