mutha-effin snakes in the mutha-effin drain

How do you snake a drain with right angles?

My siphon isn't what I'm used to - snaking a "swan's neck" toilet seems to be the limit of my technique.

I haven't been able to get the snake past the last curve (to go parallel with the floor). Any suggestions?

Unbolt the toilet from the floor and then snake it.
It's common practice.

There is probably a lip in the junction that is catching the head of the snake. Try using a different one with a different head.

Excellent post title.

What kind of snake are you using? The cheap $15 ones from Ace hardware are (in my experience) totally inadequate for getting around curves like the one in your toilet. Before you unbolt the toilet (which, as the Real Dan mentions, is a totally legitimate option and actually not as scary as it sounds) you might consider dropping some money on a nicer snake made from a heavier gauge of wire that won't kink up or get snagged when it runs in to serious curves.

Good luck!
