Why am I experiencing Propecia side effects for the first time in 10 years?

I have used Propecia for 10 years to halt hair loss. I'd say it's been 80% successful for that. I have never experienced any side effects. Doctors have always given me the green light.

Last month I noticed more shedding than usual so I spoke with a doctor who suggested moving from 1MG daily to 1.5MG daily. After only 10 days I began noticing a lack of morning erections. When I had sex with my partner, I noticed a numbness and inability to sustain erections, so I immediately stopped the drug altogether.

That was 2 weeks ago. I can't honestly tell if the side effects have improved so I'm a little scared. Should I not have quit cold turkey but ween off slowly to avoid a "crash"? Why in the world would such a small change trigger side effects I should have experienced 10 years ago if I were going to experience them at all? Might it take up to 30 days or more to feel normal?

I have an appointment with a urologist in 2 weeks. I do know from reading online that there are people with significant and seemingly permanent side effects. But if I was susceptible to that, wouldn't I have noticed 10 years ago?

Possibly because you're older now and you started taking more.

I have no idea about the permanence of the side effects or how to wean yourself from Propecia. This is the kind of question that should be answerable with a phone call to your doctor.

Take a deep breath and relax. You've stopped taking the meds and you have a doctor's appointment.
