How can I watch the Canadian show "Ice Pilots NWT"?

How can I watch the TV show "Ice Pilots NWT?" without going to Canada? In general, how can I access TV shows that aren't on iTunes, Netflix, or my cable service?

It seems like if a show has been produced, then there's got to be some way some how to view it online or buy or rent the DVDs. I can't believe a show exists and you can't watch it somehow. But I can't find this one on Netflix and the website says they'll only ship the DVDs to Canadian addresses.

There are also other shows I want to see where I have the same problem. For example, Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickenson hosts a show called Flying Heavy Metal, where he flies a bunch of airplanes and talks about aviation. (Jesus, Bruce. What are you trying to do? Exhaust the entire world's supply of awesome?) I totally want to watch it, but I can't find it, except short clips on YouTube.

Best answer: Yeah, I came to say torrents, too. It's how I keep up with (British) Top Gear.

Alternately you use a proxy server of some kind to make it appear as if you are browsing from within Canada, then go to the website of the channel that airs it, assuming they stream the show after airing.

I've heard tell that good old Usenet has that sort of thing, but fewer and fewer ISPs offer it as part of their basic service, so you might need a 3rd party provider. Expect to pay about $10/month.

There may be companies in Canada that specialize in receiving domestic mail and packages, then sending them abroad. I've heard of similar companies in the US, but I can't think of what they're usually called.

Usenet is better if it's currently airing or it has a large following; torrents are better for older, more obscure titles. (The reason is that Usenet providers only archive posts from so far back). I don't know what the IRC scene is like like these days, but it might be worth a shot before shelling out for Usenet access.

And if it makes you feel better, anime fans have been wading in this particular ethical grey area for a long time. Shows that don't (yet) have an international licensee or are unlikely to get one are readily available. I forget the popular term for it.

P.S. Don't just check the public torrent trackers. There are plenty of private trackers with specialized focuses.

StrongVPN will get you a Canadian IP address, which will allow you to watch Canadian shows.
