Dancing in Seattle at 8pm

Where's a good place to go dancing in Seattle early in the evening of New Year's Eve?

I'd love to go out dancing with my spouse, but I a. don't know a thing about going out dancing and b. go to bed early. I won't be staying up to midnight, but maybe until 10pm. So I would like a mellow place to dance at, say, 7 or 8pm. I am planning on dressing up, so it doesn't need to be a casual place, just one where not being a great dancer isn't a big deal. Previous dancing in Seattle questions have yielded some great suggestions for judgement-free places, but they pretty much all start at 9:30 or 10 on New Year's Eve. Any ideas?

Response by poster: No idea, eh? I think me and Mr. Epps will go to a Burlesque show instead for New Year's Eve. There's a show that goes from 7:30-9pm, which fits in with my bedtime. If anyone does have ideas for places to go dancing early in the evening, for any evening, I'd still love to know.

What kind of dancing do you want to do?

Response by poster: I've liked every kind I've tried, but I suppose I'm more interested in 80's pop than contra. Ballroom and swing can be fun too.

It's unfortunate you haven't had any other responses. I would attempt to answer this based on what I have heard, but rather than subjecting yourself to my ignorance, I think you would be better off asking on The Stranger's Questionland. They excel at this kind of question. If you don't get a good answer there, comment here and I will ask around.

Sorry that you haven't had any good answers.

If you are willing to settle for contra, Emeral City Contra Dance starts at 7 on Fridays (including New Year's). I think it will hard to find anything else that starts early on New Year's Eve.

If you can brave the clubs in Pioneer Square, I think some of them might open at 8. In my experience, those kinds of places are usually dead early on a regular weekend evening, let alone on New Year's Eve. I probably wouldn't do it.
