Yes, I'm really using my question to find a song about "ho's" *sigh*

Name that song thread: an obscure rap song I heard about 15 years ago

I had acquired this recorded mixed tape so I'm not even entirely sure if it was all by the same artist. But there is a line from one song that occassionally pops into my head so its driving me crazy. The song is about a guy trying to sneak through his girlfriend's bedroom window to get some action. The line of the chorus that gets repeated is "HEY ho, hurry up and open up the WIN-dow" (caps being the accent...charming song, I know). I also kind of think that the song was mixed with the chorus from the song "I'm your puppet"...but that might have been a different song on the tape, but maybe by the same artist.

These definitely would not have gotten radio play...at least not in my area. And I remember the songs being horribly misogynistic, but they had damn catchy beats and if I could just listen to it again I could get it out of my head! Anyone?

This is now driving me nuts. I know the son you're talking about. No sure on the lyrics you're using but absolutely remember that "WIN-dow" inflection. I hear snoop dog singing it my head... currently working on this.

Response by poster: lacking subtlety- I suspect you're on the track of it because it's not snoop dog, but I remember the singer as having a similar nasel-y or whiny voice. A unique voice, anyway. But no, it's not NWA. And "She Swallowed It" isn't even close.

Here at the songs the-breaks.com identifies as having sampled "I'm Your Puppet":

Grand Daddy IU - "Something New"
Hi-C - "I'm Not Your Puppet"
Juice with Soul - "Gang Lingo"
Nice & Smooth - "Some Ol' Played out Shit"
Poison Clan - "Bitch That I hate" (charming!)

I can't find the Nice & Smooth song or even a reference to it outside of the-breaks.

Any of these artists sound familiar? Juice With Soul is closest to your estimated date (1993), but Poison Clan's discography is chock full of misogynistic stuff.

For what it's worth, Whosampled has a couple more songs that sample I'm Your Puppet.' I don't think any of them are your song, though.

Response by poster: Thanks, Cosmic Osmo- I'm pretty sure the Hi-C song was the one on the tape with the Puppet track. But that verifies that I'm thinking of two different songs. And I'll check out more Hi-C songs, but I'm guessing the "open up the window" song is by a different artist.

But that's one part answered!
