What does a girl do for fun in Skopje?

So I'll be in Skopje, Macedonia for work next week. I'll have a bit of free time in the evenings and I'll have Friday and Saturday free to explore. Looking for ideas of things to do / places to see...
Monday to Wednesday evenings I'll have free, but I'll be with a colleague who is in his 50s and isn't that adventurous, so recommendations for restaurants would be cool.
But Thursday evening through to Sunday morning will be all mine, so I'm looking for suggestions for places that have live music / art / shopping / general sightseeing options, and also ideas for day trips (Ohrid? Any other suggestions?).
Thanks!

Response by poster: Thanks mdonley - I've got a guidebook but I'm hoping for some local knowledge, or recommendations from people who've spent time there, to add to the experience...

I would contact the universities, according the Times Educational Supplement there is a pretty hip social scene among the faculty in Skopje. I am sure they would enjoy the knowledge (and vodka) transfer.

Best answer: Leave town on Thursday night and go to Ohrid! The lake is beautiful and the ruins and the amphitheater they uncovered are really cool.

Best answer: When we visited we had family who took us for a pic-nic and hike around Lake Matka. It was really beautiful and there's a very old church on the grounds as well. Bring drinks and food because the only options are touristy crap.
From this page:
City bus number 60 runs from central Skopje via Saraj to the Matka dam on a rather irregular timetable (check the schedule on the JSP website - see the links page). A taxi from the centre should cost about 300 MKD.
