Where can I buy quark in NYC?

Where can I buy quark (the dairy product) in NYC? Chowhound's suggestions have failed me. Brooklyn/downtown Manhattan locations are preferred.
Whole Foods does not have it? I would have thought that they would.

This chowhound thread is way out-of-date, but may give you some leads. I know they carry it at Whole Foods in the Boston-area.

Whole Foods usually stocks it next to the mascarpone (pre-packaged cheese cooler; it comes in tubs like spreadable cream cheese). I've seen it in Atlanta, Boston, and Las Vegas WFs, so I assume it's nationally stocked.

I will check Westside Market on the way home, because I am awesome.

Murray's Cheese maybe? There's one on Bleecker and one in the GCT food concourse. Westside Market is a good bet, as would be the Garden of Eden (I'm thinking of the one on 14th).

Pretty sure I've seen it at Dean & Deluca in Soho and I bet they have it at Murray's Cheese on Bleecker. Either would tell if they have it you if you called them.
On the other hand I could swear I've seen it at Whole Foods, too.

It's the same as fromage blanc battu, n'est-ce pas?

Quark and fromage blanc are not exactly the same, no.
I would be surprised if they didn't have it (or couldn't order it for you) at the Co-Op in Park Slope?

I've definitely seen it at the Chelsea Whole Foods before. I've also seen it at Sahadi's on Atlantic Avenue.
If I have my cheese terminology correct, quark is just a fresh, spreadable cow's milk cheese, not unlike farmer's cheese, no? That is very easy to make in about half an hour in any kitchen that comes equipped with a stove.

Westside Market (14th & 7th) has something kind of similar in the first cheese display on the left when you walk in the front door. It's a French fresh cheese with a cow on the packaging just like the speisequark and is on the bottom of the display just below the appallingly delicious-looking mozzarella balls in plastic tubs.

I know I've seen it at the Union Square farmer's market, and I'm pretty sure Fairway carries it too.
It's sad how hard to find this stuff is in the US, isn't it?

I also came in to suggest making it yourself. If you need a lot, then this recipe has worked quite well for me. (though I use a water bath instead of the oven)

I had this problem a few years ago when I had German friends in the US trying to make us a tradition German christmas dinner. Another German who had been living in the US for over 30 years referred us to the section of the grocery store that sold "ethnic foods" like stuff for tamales and other traditional Mexican dishes. There was certain kind of cream, I forget what it was called in Spanish, but the translation was something like "Farmer's cream".
The German guests tried it and verified it was the same as quark.
