Escape to which mountain?

Weekend getaway suggestions - outside of nyc, dog friendly, not breaking the bank.

We need to go away next weekend 11/5-11/8 (renting out our apartment to friends and our original getaway plans fell through).

We have a chihuahua.

We can drive, but want to stay within 1.5hrs of NYC. Bf's parents live near Poughkeepsie, so somewhere in that region would be good (Hudson valley or western CT). If we can do it w/out renting a car, even better.

Our budget for transportation and lodging (i.e. not counting food and other incidentals) is about $600 and we'll need to be gone for 3 nights (fri, sat, sun).

There are so many B&Bs to sift through; craigslist vacation rentals and homeaway have not been particularly helpful either. We'd like to avoid a standard hotel (e.g. Hilton, Marriott, etc.).

Any suggestions?

Response by poster: The lack of suggestions here makes me sad. Any ideas if we remove the monetary limitation? Expand the search radius (say, Philly to Boston)?

I don't have a specific recommend once you get there, but the Shawnagunks and Catskills are really pretty this time of year and lot's of people walk their dogs on the trails where people are climbing outdoors. I know people sometimes rent out cabins in that area.
