Looking for a better sound scheme for my PC

Ever since I've had a PC I've either had to endure the MS Sound scheme or some amatuer wavs that were horrific. What I'm looking for are pleasant sounds that say like, when you have a critical error, you hear a chorus vocal by Enya instead of "DING!"

So if there any place on the net that offers really pleasant new-age and/or really well done sound schemes? I'd even be willing to shell out a buck or two not to endure the horrific sounds of "DING!" or "DUH-DOO"

You know, making your own with something like audacity is painless and quick. any sound that goes over your sound card, including CD output, can be captured and clipped for use.

Search the net for wav files that you like...there's a million sites out there that are all about the sound files.

any sound you hear repeatedly is going to be annoying, so I always turn to the sound scheme off - I've always found the visual prompt sufficient.
Having said that, I do have a soft spot for 2001 system sounds - if you're going to have your computer talk to you, it might as well be with the voice of a talking computer....

Response by poster: jikel, I've searched the web and seen millions of sites, with really crummy sounds and that's what I'm trying to avoid.

What I'm hoping is that someone has a site where it is dedicated to high-quality, well done (And thought out) system sounds.

They do get old, forallmankind, but I'd like just something better than the ding I've heard for years and years.

Dong-thanks, I may try this but once again, I'm trying to avoid piling on more work for me

Best answer: Are you looking for a site like this? They do sound effects for various video games and web sites. On this page, entitled "Interactive Sound Design Elements," you can find a list of different sound effects suitable for UI use.

I really like the "new" gaim sounds, and they'd work perfectly for system sounds like dings.
