Thanksgiving vacations

What are some quick vacations I can do with my family over Thanksgiving?

My family and I have been going through a rough few months, battling depression with some members, a broken shoulder with another, and unemployment with another. Fortunately, we're lucky enough to be financially stable and want to take a family vacation for the 4-day Thanksgiving holiday. Any suggestions? We are 4 people, 3 living in Richmond, VA, one in New York City. It has to be in those days, and hopefully have something interesting for two parents in their 50s and two children in their mid-20s.

Try looking on this website.

It suggests that you should look for something to do in Baltimore, which is almost halfway between the two of you.

As far as what to do in Baltimore, erm, maybe the Ravens have a home game that weekend? Or maybe there's a decent state park around there with hiking trails, picnic locations, etc. I wouldn't bet on too many museums and such being open (though me being wrong about something isn't exactly unprecedented).

since a lot of stuff is going to be closed/empty i would shoot for places that are still interesting sans people.

not sure what your constraints are regarding price, but pensacola, fl could be an option. i went with a bunch of 20 something friends during the off season and we had a blast. the beach is gorgeous and mostly empty. you can rent bikes and bike all over the place. i think there is some type of golfing too. the average temp is 70ish for that time of year, not swimming weather perhaps but still nice to sit on the beach! my friends and i rented an entire house through for-rent-by-owner.

Seaside (near Pensacola) and the surrounding communities are amazing, very New Urbanism, not strip malls and high-rises.

Or you could go to San Juan.

I would do DC. The Smithsonians I think are open EVERY day except Dec 25. So many things to see there. "19 museums, 9 research centers, and the National Zoo"

How about renting a place at the beach, Cape May, Rehoboth, or somewhere like those. Peaceful, inspiring.

One of my high school friends used to go to Bermuda with her family every Thanksgiving. It always sounded fun! And it's very close.
