Talented dressmaker in Boston area?

Where, within an hour of Boston, MA, can I have a custom dress (not an alteration) made?

Next summer, I will have the honor of getting married to Salvor Hardin!! I'm not interested in wearing a traditional wedding gown, but I would like to have a simple, yet perfectly-fitting dress made for me that I can wear for a good long time.

I've spent a lot of time searching for information on dressmakers in the area, to no avail. I'm wary of bridal shops - perhaps unnecessarily? - because that's just not the look I'm interested in and because I find the whole "we'll make you in to a princess!" culture of being a bride distasteful. Should I consider bridal shops anyway? But better yet, do any of you know of a talented dressmaker who can help me turn my ideas and sketches in to a simple, well made dress that I can wear not just at my wedding but for years to come?

The closer to Boston/Cambridge, the better!

Look for a theatrical costumer. I did, and I was thrilled.

My partner found the woman who made her wedding dress on the kvetch section at indiebride.com. This was in San Francisco. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone in the Boston area who comes with personal recommendations from the folks on the site.

How much are you willing to pay? There's a local designer named Cibeline with a boutique in my neighborhood (Beacon Hill) who will do custom dresses... when I asked her to quote me a braidesmaid dress once, she estimated around $700, and I don't know where that is in your budget. But I love her stuff and she's super friendly and great to work with.

Emilia's Creations in Lexington. Beauttiful work, but she's not cheap. Emilia Delgado: 781.863.8258. She's on Mass Ave, down town.

I don't have any experience with her other than liking the look of her dresses and trench coats at SoWa Open Market, but Deena Collier? See Collier Couture. Based in Boston.
