Morse code would have been simpler.

Looking to get an SMS number for 2 months in Norway. How can I do this?

I'm looking to get an SMS number/short code/similar service in Norway that people can txt messages to from their phones. The received messages need to be routed to a database on a remote server.

Any ideas how I can do this?

Google Voice. Done.

(If you actually need a disposable GSM phone while there, you can get them on every corner in every city in Europe for about USD$20, with 5-10 cent per minute pay-as-you-go plans pretty much the norm.)

Response by poster: That would have been my first choice, but Google Voice isn't available outside the US. This number is going to be receiving texts from Oslo, I doubt many people will want to pay the fees to send a message to the US.

Best answer: If you want a local Norwegian number Sendega can sell you the service for 200 NOK + 20 NOK/month. (the messages are forwarded to either email or a custom url it seems like). Know nothing about the company, it was just the first google hit I found.

Another option is to get a cheap smartphone with a pre-paid sim, make sure it's always charged and have good reception and write some quick software to transfer the messages to a server (through USB, wlan or 3G for example). If you aren't in Norway, this might be a bit hard to set up though :)

Response by poster: Thanks rpn. Believe I will roll either with Sendega, or use an Arduino with a GSM modem and get a Telnor number to receive texts.
