Where can I get Asian furniture appraised in the Washington DC area?

A friend of mine inherited a house's worth of furniture his father-in-law acquired while stationed in Taiwan (I think -- possibly, actually Thailand).

Do you folks know of any places with expertise in appraising Asian furniture in the Washington area? Bonus points if the place is in Northern Virginia.

Any information about furniture dealers who might want to buy this stuff would also be appreciated.

[If the answer is that no such place actually exists, and that my friend should take the stuff to any appraiser, please say so.]

How nice is this stuff? There are some pricy places in Georgetown.

Weschlers on E Street NW, or Quinn's Auction Galleries in Falls Church.

Call and explain the job and ask their advice. You can get an appraisal from either. Quinn's is all about Asian. There might or might not be something valuable. If should happen to be good Chinese antiques, I do know that those are selling really well right now, as affluent Chinese businessmen are buying up the items that are considered Chinese patrimony.

Back to add that I talked with my son who is in this business and he said to tell you that an auction house has an incentive to get you the most for the stuff, if it is auction-worthy, because they don't make money unless you make money, unlike a dealer who must factor in a considerable profit margin and offer correspondingly less. The auction house would have bonded appraisers who also do insurance appraisals for a fee but what you probably need first is an evaluation about whether it is worth putting in an auction and they would be the best ones to do that because it is in their interest as well as the owner's.
