Best way to create a snapshot of a file structure

Is there a simple way to take a snapshot of a file structure/hierarchy on a Mac?

I would like to produce a large image of an entire file structure, showing all files open to display their contents. Taking a screen grab of each portion of the file that can be displayed on screen at any one time is laborious, and not quite what I want.
I am using OS 10.4

PrintWindow

You can send the output to a PDF

I think if you want images, etc.you need to buy, otherwise it's free.

Do you want to see all the files open, or all the folders open, like a tree view?

Might not be what you are looking for, but maybe check out Grand Perspective. It gives you a picture of the whole filesystem, or some subset of your filesystem from the perspective of filetypes.
