Do cool slippers exist? (Not that kind of cool!)

Slippers that won't make my feet hot -- do they exist?
I like to wear slippers around the house because most of the main living area is wood and tile, and I need some extra padding on my feet. I don't want to wear shoes because they're not as comfortable, and they are more likely to scuff up the floor than slippers are. But all the slippers I've tried keep my feet too warm most of the time; on cold days it's ok, but the rest of the time it's uncomfortable. Socks alone don't provide enough padding (and still sometimes make my feet hot).
Is there such a thing as comfortable slippers with good padding that aren't really designed to keep your feet warm?

This is supposed to be a cool summer slipper from Nike. Or maybe a Huarache kind of thing?
6550, thanks! I never knew what those things were called.

Yes, the soccer sandal - you can get them in the traditional molded form or with memory foam for extra cushyness. (No recommendation for/against soccerpro.com - they just came up first in my search.)

I cannot recommend Crocs enough - Are you female? They have many "cute" styles other than the most common style you see everywhere. I have the same problem as you (hot feet) and they are the shoe I always go to the minute I get home.

Crocs, yes. Flip-flops, too, but not the $3 Wal-Mart kind. A nice pair of Reefs will cost you about $20-25 and is worth the little bit extra.

I wear $7 target brand crocs all the time for this exact reason.
They look funny, are extraordinarily comfortable, and not advised if you have to go walk in the snow for any reason.

I don't wear slippers for the same reason - they make my feet hot. And sweaty. (ewwwww)
I have avoided crocs for the same reason - all that plastic looks hot. And sweaty. Maybe I'm wrong. My friends seemed to love them...
Around the house I wear Birkenstocks. Sometimes with socks.

If you are a lady I recommend Rocket Dog's Mighty or Memories. I bought a pair of Memories specifically for summery "house shoes."

I have a pair of shearling Ugg flip flops I got at Marshall's a few years ago for $30 that serve this function very well.

I find the $3 flip-flops work fine.

I have this problem and my current working theory is that it's caused by synthetic fibers used in the production of toasty slippies (fake fleecy stuff) and for my next pair I'm going to try natural fibers like wool and see if that allows for both warmth and breathable feetsies.

Action, Crocs aren't made of plastic. It's kind of like a dense styrofoam. They're also designed (even my knockoffs) with all the holes in them so your feet stay cool and don't sweat.
Even though they're made of some kind of foam, they're not structurally unsound. My pair has been going for three or four years now with daily use. I have no cracks in the soles or parts that have broken off. The only thing I've done is wear off the treads on the bottom.

Response by poster: I'm male, but I'm not above looking ridiculous around the house in the name of comfort.
Thanks for the recommendations!

L.L. Bean has shearling flip-flops now (just like Uggs, but cheaper). They look comfy and non-sweaty.

As silly as it sounds, I've been wearing Uggs men's fleece-lined slippers around the house for the same reason for the past couple of years, and I'm still amazed that they don't actually make my feet hot, even during summer in Texas.

Crocs make my feet sweat, which makes the insides of them dangerously slippery.
I wear soccer sandals/soccer slides. I buy some every year at Target with a black satin insole, which is just right for winter.

I got some leather sandals with rubber soles to replace my slippers a while back. My only complaint is that they have a strap across the heel which I have to fasten with my hand (as opposed to just slipping them on) but in every other respect, they've worked well.
I prefer them to things like flip-flops because I have dogs who like to occasionally sprint away from me when I'm walking, and not throwing a shoe when chasing is always a good thing in my mind.

I've been a big fan of Halflinger's hard-sole slippers for a long time. I don't feel like they keep my feet super warm, but they're nice to wear around the house. (And the hard sole means you can walk outside if you need to.)
