Playing Audio Input on OS X

My dad just bought me an XM radio receiver, and I'm trying to run it through the audio input jack of my Powerbook. I know the sound comes in, because I can record it -- but I can only actually listen to the recordings, and not the sound in real-time! Or, at least, that's all I can figure out how to do. How do I listen to audio input without recording?

Best answer: What software are you using? There should be an option somewhere called "Play through speaker" or thereabouts. I don't think there's a system-wide setting for it.
