Searching for entertaining Christian podcasts

I'm not generally a fan of podcasts but I LOVE the Bugle (with John Oliver and Andy Zaltsmann). Listen to it all the time.

Are there any podcasts out there that have a pleasantly Christian take on current news?

If you think you might have an answer but it's not a podcast, please do post it anyway. My current frustration as a Christian is that we're relegated into just "being" Christian - we aren't supposed to have any involvement with science, politics, nutrition, etc. I would LOVE to find an expression of reality within the framework of Christian love.

Comedy will be a BIG plus, but not necessary.

FWIW The Bugle, as much as I love it, is run by two Athiests (agnostic at best). I've listened to all 125 episodes multiple times. But as a Lutheran I'm frustrated by their religious cynicism.

Thanks and God bless!

This falls into the not-a-podcast category you mention, but I really enjoy browsing content posted on the website for First Things, a generally conservative-Christian/Jewish-oriented journal of politics and culture. The religious orientation may be a little strong for your tastes, but they certainly have a ton of very intelligent writing on science and politics, and possibly even a little nutrition somewhere as well. Even if the site doesn't turn out to be your cup of tea, browsing there might turn up references to other figures whose podcasts/blogs you'd enjoy.

"Mars Hill Audio is committed to assisting Christians who desire to move from thoughtless consumption of contemporary culture to a vantage point of thoughtful engagement. We believe that fulfilling the commands to love God and neighbor requires that we pay careful attention to the neighborhood: that is, every sphere of human life where God is either glorified or despised, where neighbors are either edified or undermined."

Best answer: Christian podcasts I listen to include The Boundless Show, The Internet Monk Radio podcast (the guy who produced it passed away recently, but there are 165 back episodes), and the PODCAzT, by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf.

The Boundless show comes from Focus on the Family and is targeted at adults in their 20's and 30's. There's a lot about relationships and other stuff about music and movies, etc.

The Internet Monk described himself as a post-evangelical blogger.

Fr. Zuhlzdorf is Catholic. He talks about patristics, Latin, liturgical translationa and other stuff. He has a great voice.

I'm not sure how helpful these are... but it's my shot at answering the question.

You might also appreciate some of the Speaking of Faith episoldes. But they are of very varrying quality and, even when the guests are great, frequently reflect Krista Tippett's preoccupations, rather than the things you or I might find interesting about the guests.

I just started a long commute and have been sucked into the Veritas Forum. They put out their talks in podcast format on iTunes, but it's not going to fit the "current news" vibe. Amazing talks, though, and worth a listen.

Best answer: I like Watching Theology, which analyzes a different film every episode. The episodes are infrequent but worthwhile.

I would recommend Ravi Zacharias' podcasts "Let my People Think" and "Just Thinking".

They are not particularly funny, but very thoughtful and engaging. They have an apologetics slant to them, so might not particularly be your cup of tea if you're just after some easy listening and discussion, but I find them very worthwhile.

The Q and A sessions on Friday's "Just Thinking" are usually interesting, although they tend to get a bit repetitive after a while since fundamentally people always seem to be asking variations on the same five questions.

Best answer: Father Roderick (Bio) is a huge geek, and has his The Secrets series on different movies/shows.

Relvant Magazine has a podcast and is very oriented to Christians' engagement with culture. America Magazine also has a podcast, but it's more direct Catholic.
