Any tips for saving money on some new Danskos?

Dansko has a new collection called Rio. Aren't they cute? I'm particularly taken with the Rory, the Ryder, and the Rachel. These styles cost about $150 and up on Zappos (where they are already running out of some styles and sizes) and a tiny bit less on Amazon. Most other online shoe stores seem to have similar prices, with and without free shipping. ClogsCentral has the best price so far at $135 with free shipping.

I checked Ebay and I found only one pair of any of these various styles (which are too new to be there yet, I suspect).

So, what's my best bet for saving some money? For example, do any of the regular online shoe stores offer coupons with any predictability? Am I better off drumming up a coupon for a local store? Or should I go for ClogsCentral?

Best answer: Whenever I shop online, I check retailmenot.com before I buy. It's extraordinary how many online stores have coupons listed there. Also, Firefox for one has some excellent price comparison extensions.

danskooutlet.com has good prices, and i've never been able to discern the defect in shoes i've ordered there. they don't have the Rio styles yet, but they probably will eventually if you're willing to wait a while.

Have you worn any Danskos recently? Apparently they've outsourced their labor to China and the ones cranked out in the last two years or so have been of poorer quality and fit than original Danskos. (Just something to keep in mind if you plan to buy online and not test them out in person first.)

They won't have this particular collection yet, but keep an eye on 6pm.com for older Danskos.

Also, Sierra Trading Post has older Dansko styles, so if you can be patient...

Best answer: My Dansko strategy is to wait for a 40% off coupon at REI but it doesn't look like they're carrying the Rios (yet?). That said, I do feel like Dansko's quality has dropped off in the last couple of years. Not enough for me to stop buying them, but enough to notice.

Response by poster: Thanks, all, for the comments so far. I have been able to get great deals on Danskos in the past with some of the tips here, but, as has been mentioned, I don't think they'll work for this new style, not right away anyway. And I can't wait! Or, I don't want to.

Mskyle, great suggestion--I'm crossing my fingers that REI starts carrying these. Bearwife, I've used retailmenot before, but had forgotten about it, so thanks.

As for quality: I have had my share of Danskos over the years, and my current pair (at my feet now), new last season, was made in Brazil and has held up just fine. I know some people think the quality has gone down since they separated from Sanita, but I have some Sanitas I bought this summer, and the quality seems the same. Maybe I've just been lucky. Or maybe I am such a Dansko fangirl that I can't stand to hear the truth.

You can get a discount with some online shoe stores that are connected with Ebates or Extrabux, which will give you a rebate if you first go to their site and then click through to he seller you want to buy from. And using one of the rebate sites doesn't invalidate most promo codes. Example: either one gets you an 8% discount at shoes.com.

I love Zappos, but their prices tend to be on the high side (I think they add in the cost of back and forth shipping for every pair of shoes). Check your local malls and shoe stores -- I've done this in the past and usually save at least 20 bucks per pair over Zappos' prices.

this is probably a mood point, but id you ever decide to change to Sanitas or they start carrying the Rio, I have had luck at Clog Outlet.
