How do I get to Macon, Missouri USA by public transport? Greyhound is not an option apparently.
You take public transport to a rental car agency, and drive there. That or thumb in the wind...in the midwest, public transit is for poor people and minorities in the city. Out in the rural areas, you ain't got a car, you're a shut-in.

There's an Amtrak Station in La Plata, about 20 miles away.
Macon itself has (as of 2000) only about 5000 people, so it might not be served by a major bus service. But there may be some regional transportation. You might try calling the Macon Chamber of Commerce and see what they suggest.

Maybe Amtrak to La Plata, then taxi to Macon. Sigh, years ago I frequently rode Greyhound to & from Macon. Apart from the previous, I don't see any public transportation terminal closer than Columbia.

Here are extensive listings of bus services in the U.S., via the Trailways site. Looks like greyhound goes to columbia and I don't see anything closer, but I could have missed something else.

I live in Columbia, about 60 miles south. Try either the Antrak to La Plata or MegaBus (similar to Greyhound) to Columbia.
I highly doubt there is taxi service in La Plata. It is a tiny midwestern farm town. Send me a MeFi Mail if you need more details. I'm fairly familiar with the area.

There are a number of taxis in Columbia. There might a way to get them to take you to Macon, but it would be a 120 mile round trip for them...

Best answer: Thinking outside the box a little, Truman State University is in Kirksville, about 20 miles north of Macon. On any given weekend, several hundred students head down Highway 63 through the heart of Macon, then take I-70 to St. Louis (about 3 hrs total). They make the reverse trip on Sunday afternoon. If you can get to St. Louis and offer a student gas money plus a little extra, you could probably find someone to hitch a ride with.
Public transit is pretty much non existent out there, but you could rent a car in St. Louis or KC and drive there. It will probably be less expensive than you think.

Chrisamiller has the right idea. As a former Truman student, I can attest that this would work!

Agreed with chrisamiller. It would probably work if you could get to Columbia as well. I knew plenty of people who did that Columbia-Kirksville drive pretty often.

Try posting on craigslist to get a ride from a Truman student.
