ipad/iphone is recognized by iphoto but not itunes

I am trying to sync my ipad and iphone to my new imac. I transferred all of my information to my new imac from my mac mini via ethernet yesterday. Now my ipad and iphone are recognized by iphoto but not itunes. I checked, and I have the latest version of itunes installed. (I also have 3 separate accounts on the computer if that makes any difference). Please help!

I would start by removing/reinstalling iTunes (and the other stuff that's on this list). That almost always fixes the issue of an iPhone or iPad not being recognized by iTunes.

by the way, this won't delete your music/apps/ringtones whatever you have in iTunes, just the app itself. it's part of the troubleshooting in iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X.
