How to piggy back my media server onto my UVerse network

Can I somehow piggy back my media server on the network cables AT&T is going to use tomorrow for my U-Verse setup?

I'm getting U-Verse installed into my townhouse tomorrow. Right now, 2 of the three bedrooms have a cat-6 cable drop. The other bedroom and the living room have co-ax. I believe all 4 cables go up into the attic and then to an outside utility closet that has the phone stuff, electric meter, etc, for me and the two other people in my building.

I'd like to be able to have a monster media server in my office, but access the content from other rooms in the house over eithernet.

I know U-Verse allows me to record something on one DVR, then play it on another TV elsewhere in the house. I assume this works because AT&T sets up some kind of internal network to stream the data from one place to the next. Is this just a regular TCP/IP network? If not, is there something I do to use AT&Ts cables for my internal gig-e eithernet network?

If they're running Cat5/6, it's just a normal IP over Ethernet network. The RG has a 4 port switch in it, but you can add others to expand the network if you need to.

Also, the switch on the RG is just 10/100, so you'll have to use your own gig-e switch(es), which you can plug the RG and set-top boxes into.

Also, are you using UVerse for Internet service too? Because if you're not, you may have to do some extra configuration on the RG to change its DHCP server settings so it doesn't conflict with your existing Internet connection.

Response by poster: Yeah, going to use UVerse for internet service.

The only issue appears to be that two rooms that are getting the TV service already have co-ax. Perhaps I can convince the installer to run Cat6 there instead.

Is going wireless an option? UVerse comes with a modem/router combo device, but you can set it to DMZ mode and use your own wireless router. Or just get a wireless access point sans-router.

Response by poster: No, wireless won't work. I want to be table to stream HD quality video. Going to need wired network connections to get enough bandwidth.
