mrsmoonpie wants to marry you in Dupont Circle

Help me find a quiet place to marry folks in Dupont Circle area.

Like mrmoonpie, I have been performing primarily, but not exclusively same-sex marriages in D.C.

One of the couples I am to wed wants to be married outside, but in a more quiet/private area of Dupont Circle.

I'm not sure that such a thing exists. I've informed the couple that anywhere outside will be public, but can you think of any place that wouldn't have as much hustle and bustle as around the fountain in Dupont Circle, itself?

Best answer: What about Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park? It's not quite IN Dupont Circle, but close. Reasonably quiet (unless it's a drum circle Sunday) and very beautiful.

The garden at the Textile Museum is kind of pretty. Evidently you have to rent rooms to get the garden, though, and it seems a little pricey. And it's technically in Kalorama and not Dupont.

Best answer: Sheridan Circle (a bit north on Mass) isn't very private (it's wide open), but it's pretty quiet - not a lot of foot traffic, though fairly consistent car-traffic around.

There's also some sort of park on S St between Connecticut and Mass. I have no idea what it's called or how crowded it is, but it might be worth looking at. It seems pretty quiet whenever I walk by.

There's the big grassy park alongside Rock Creek at 22 and P. You could find a nice spot there.

The Woodrow Wilson House is also nice. I went to a pretty outdoor wedding there last year.

Response by poster: I should mention that the couples is hoping to find a free venue, if possible. That's why I initally suggested Dupont Circle fountain, but it was too busy for their tastes.

The back yard of the Heurich House - the gate is often open, and, other than at lunchtime during the week, there's rarely anyone in it.

How about Sheridan Circle?

In the mornings, before the pool opens, the field behind Francis Junior High School at 2425 N St., NW is also pretty quiet - at worst, you'd have a few dog walkers as witnesses.

seconding ryanshepard's suggestion. it's just steps away from the dupont circle metro.

I used to like hanging out by the Spanish Steps at 22nd and S for quiet time. It's lovely, especially in the summer, and there's hardly ever anyone there. Technically it's Kalorama, not Dupont, though.

Ah, a good suggestion - it is a pretty spot.

I second the stretch of park at 22nd/23rd and P. I believe it is colloquially known as the "P Street beach." It won't be "private" in the nobody-else-around sense, but it won't be as much of a madhouse as Dupont Circle itself.

Response by poster: quadrilaterals - Mitchell Park is the park you meant on S and 23rd St NW. I went by this evening around 6:00 pm. It was lovely and I think just what they were looking for.

Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park will work well for those couples who want to wed in the U St and Columbia Heights, too.

I know a couple that got married at the Spanish Steps and loved it. What about the Arboretum? I think there's a fee if you want to take pictures but I don't know if you just want a ceremony (nowhere near Dupont Circle, though).

Hah--the only place I've been hassled at all was the Arboretum. Security guard told us to leave, then followed us out. eviltiff and the LittleMissMoonPie were in attendance at that one. You'd think it'd be great.
