Why am I so stinky and why am I losing so much hair?

BO in crotch area, plus hair falling out – what’s going on? TMI after the fold.

I’m a 39-year old woman experiencing a very odd thing, to me: my underwear smells like armpits on a very anxious day. And my hair is falling out at about four times the usual rate. This has been going on for about a week now.

Any thoughts on what it could be? It feels like this must be hormonal, but I’ve never had it before. I am just starting my period right now, btw.

At my last physical in March everything was fine. I weigh 110lbs at 5’4”.

I have an appointment to see my doctor next week but I’d like to know what I can do to mitigate the smell until I get tested and treated. Also, if you recognize the symptoms, what sort of treatment do they call for and how long is it before my hair stops falling out at this rate and the smell goes away?

The smell could be jock itch. Which is a fungal infection, but not a yeast infect that women get....

Are you wearing new underwear?

Ask your doctor to have a full thyroid panel done on you.

In the meantime, use deodorant in your leg pits (you know, over on each side) the same way you do in your arm pits. I do this all the time in the summer.

I think you need to see your doctor for potential hormonal problems. Hair loss, for example, is sometimes a symptom of PCOS. But it could be lots of things.

Heavy sweating and hair loss are definite signs of hyperthyroidism as is pebbly skin, tremors, and arrhythmia. I had all of these symptoms for years even while I was getting my yearly check-ups and my Grave's disease went undiagnosed. Just because you were "fine" at your last physical doesn't mean anything without the lab work up done on your thyroid levels.
