Help me figure out who hit my car this morning

Seattle long-shot filter: this morning I was in a hit and run accident with a van (the van was the hitter and runner, not me). The van was from a van service company that I've seen around, but I don't know the name. I'd like to try to figure this out before I call my insurance company. Metafilter detectives, please help me get some justice! Details about the van inside.

It was one of those white vans with a slightly curved top. I think it's the kind that accommodates wheelchairs, etc but I don't know enough about vans to be sure. The distinctive thing is that it has a pastel-ish image of the Seattle skyline on the back, with the space needle featured prominently.

The van hit my car door as I was opening it on the street this morning and completely fucked up my door. I do realize that this may ultimately be viewed legally as my fault, but I also think it's completely unacceptable for the driver of the other car to have hit my car and just kept going. Any help in figuring out who this was would be awesome!

Maybe Northwest Transport?

That's a hit and run (attended), I believe, and you should make a police report pronto. I'll keep an eye out for the van -- think I have seen that company's vehicles -- but will point out the police probably are a good resource for figuring out which company, too.

I think you should probably file a police report.

I'm not from Seattle, but I looked for like 30 minutes trying to find any logos or images of a chater/shuttle van and couldn't :[

Could it be Bayview Retirement Community?

Did it look like this van? Sorry I can't tell what the company is, but maybe having a photo will help?

Maybe "Let's Tour Seattle"?

The driver should have stopped, but we were driving by the Fremont Troll recently and some guy had parked and opened his door into our moving car, damaging it. It was considered 100% his fault for opening the door without checking that it was safe.

Sorry this happened to you. I'll keep an eye out when I bike home today.

If it's a hit and run the vehicle that left the scene might automatically be at fault. At least that is how it worked for me when I was hit years ago. However, if you didn't call the police when it happened you may be out of luck as you have no proof of anything.

Gray Line Seattle?

(Wow, there sure are a lot of van companies with similar images. dywypi got the one I was thinking of - I've seen lots of those around but I don't know the name of the company either.)

My in-laws own Show Me Seattle Tours, so I hope it wasn't one of their vans.

I wonder if it could be Eastgate Mobility? I live near a clinic with a lot of disabled traffic each morning and I've seen their cars and vans. I think they have a skyline image that incorporates the space needle. I'm really not positive as to the logo; I'll come back to this thread the next time I can see a van.

I tried finding them online to get a look at the logo, but all I could find was this complaint about an unsafe driver.

Response by poster: Thanks all. Northwest Transport seems to be the best bet, but they're claiming they had no vans in the neighborhood this morning (AND threatened to sue me for damaging one of their vans, heh). Unfortunately, the cops don't want to pursue this, and I don't have uninsured motorist insurance coverage, which is a huge bummer. So it looks like I may be on the hook for this.

If anyone can find a pic of Eastgate Mobility's logo that would be awesome.

"and I don't have uninsured motorist insurance coverage"

Don't be too bummed about this, it doesn't apply to hit and runs. There needs to be someone to be held accountable so your insurance could have pursed them for money.

They may not want to pursue this but you are still entitled to make a police report. I will tell you this could result in something happening later -- the police do notice when a company or driver does more than one hit and run. Sorry SPD isn't doing their job here, though.

Response by poster: I did make a police report, but they're not planning on doing anything about it, unfortunately.

The way the claims adjustor explained it, because there isn't anyone to hold accountable, it falls under the uninsured motorist category.

Untrue. I've been in 2 hit and run accidents, and Progressive paid me out for them both times.

For anyone still following this, I got another look at an Eastgate Mobility van. It showed a mountain, not the Space Needle.
