Looking for apartment in Brooklyn (Borough Park/Kensington)

Brooklyn apartment filter: I'm looking for a 1 bedroom apartment in Borough Park/Kensington. I'm checking the regular places: Craigslist, classified ads, etc. Where else should I check? Are there any good brokers in the area? Is there anyone or any place that I should definitely avoid?

Slight twist: I am looking for a building that has laundry on-site. Thanks!

Best answer: Kensington seems to be the hot new neighborhood. I moved recently and was looking to get a place there. I don't think I saw a single ad on craigslist for an apartment in Kensington or Ditmas Park.

Forgive me if I'm wrong (don't know Borough Park all that well), but unless you have connections in the Hasidic community it may be difficult to get a place there. I know the other Hasidic neighborhoods generally work that way.

You might have better luck going through a broker. If you're currently in the area I'd suggest heading to a major thoroughfare like Cortelyou Rd. and stopping by some brokers offices. They usually have big shop-front windows with current listings posted.

Best answer: If you're willing to expand your search to other nearby areas, I recommend Windsor Terrace as a similar neighborhood in both geography and feel.

Best answer: Google maps -> "More ..." button -> Real Estate and scroll the map around.

ny.curbed.com -> marketplace -> rentals (has a 1 bed listed for $1350

I know one of the other sites that either of these linked to had a "has laundry yes/no" check box on the advanced search, but I can't find it now. However, if you find a rent low enough every apartment has on site laundry if there's a wash and fold service nearby that picks up and delivers.

Response by poster: Thanks, everyone! I ended up using a mix of your ideas, expanded my search a bit further, and found a nice place.
