Where can I procure breadfruit in Austin, Tx?

While watching Mutiny on the Bounty I realized I'd never actually seen a breadfruit, and would like to incorporate it into a dish.

Best answer: I'd check Central Market and Whole Foods (the one on 6th.) If you don't have any luck there, try MT Supermarket on N Lamar.

I'm pretty sure they have both canned and frozen breadfruit at MT Supermarket, but in any case, it's definitely worth a field trip. I love that place.

You're best bet is MT.
They may have to special order it. I've never seen it there.
If they do a special order, order one for me too.

Canned?
I am intrigued.

Response by poster: Thanks, all. I'll report back with what I find at this MT Supermarket place.

I'd also venture that any Indian/ Sri Lankan grocery stores would have it, or at least would know where you can find it.

Don't know what your Whole Food carries but I have never seen breadfruit at any WF stores in NY. I'm not familiar with the Austin area but if there is a Caribbean neighborhood near you, definitely try the grocery stores there!

Be sure to talk to the grocery people at Central Market and Whole Foods, even if you don't see breadfruit there. They are generally very knowledgeable about produce and can let you know if they ever get it in, when you'd find it, and even where else in town to try if they don't have it. They've been most helpful to me over the phone on issues like this (i.e. non-hydrogenated lard, both CM and WF recommended other places to try).
