I'm looking for an all purpose (mainly speech) set of in-ear headphones. My budget is £50.

Best answer: You might be able to find some Klipsch S4s for £50. They've sold for £53 or so before although Amazon have them at £59. I've got some. They're better than £80 Etymotics and more comfortable than the Shure earphones I've tried.

I bought them after reading a comparative review in one or other of the gadget mags in which they basically came top for value.

Sennheiser CX200 or 300's are my go-to headphones in this budget range.

Best answer: I've had a few different sets of Sennheisers. I've always found them to be sturdy and reliable. Apparently a lot of people on Amazon agree with me. The CX 500s are very good, and well under budget.

Not as fancy, but a value for the price, are the Apple in-ear phones. Plus they have a mic if you use an iPhone.

Best answer: Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi only cost £49 on amazon, and they are some of the best earbuds I've owned. In my opinion, they are better than the Shure SE210 (£69) but not as good as the Etymotic HF5 (£61). Personally, I'd recommend the Etymotics if you have the extra budget because their strongpoint is mid- to high-range tones, which is especially nice for voice recordings (although the UEs are almost as good for this purpose, and are more comfortable, especially if you want to listen while lying down on your side).

I should mention that a lot of this is subjective; it seems that perception of what sounds good/accurate varies wildly from person to person.

I like the Klipsch s4s too. They fit better than other earphones I've tried. I also have the s4i which has a remote + mic that works on certain apple devices. Might be more than you need/out of your price range though.
