Smut! Give me smut and nothing but!

Recommend me your favorite pornographic magazine.

I love getting magazines. I love the feeling of them arriving every month, like a present, and I love the fact that someone else has filtered through a bunch of content for me and picked what they think is the best and printed and bound it. I also love porn. So clearly I should combine my love of both!

I'm pretty open-minded: I know I want a magazine, not a website, but beyond that I'm open to just about anything. I'm a chick, so woman-friendly porn is a bonus. I'm fine with all pictures, all words, or a mix of both. I'm fine with arty or explicit, kinky or vanilla, male or female or mixed, illustrated or photographs. I'm fine with subscription, and I'm fine with one I have to buy every month. So hit me up, and tell me your very favorite pages-stuck-suspiciously-together porn rag!

Bonus points if you can tell me why it's your favorite, or about a specific photo spread or story that illustrates the flavor of the magazine.

It's not out yet but I'm really excited for the first issue of Poolboy Magazine in August. I've been following their blog for a while and they're hilarious, frank about their desire to fuck, and have good taste in the fellows.

I know you're pretty open but there's not a lot of porn catering to women, period, much less print media catering to mostly-straight women (not making assumptions about you, here), so Poolboy is going to be pretty unique.

I'm pretty sure the first issue is going to feature a photoshoot of a dude in American Apparel underwear and ACTUAL REAL DICK (yay! cheesecakey harlequin romance novel covers!) and I am going to proudly display it on my coffee table.

I meant to say yay! no cheesecakey harlequin romance novel covers! I'm really happy when people have the balls to show, well, balls.

I know the staff of Syzygy Magazine; it's also not out yet, but should be awesome.

When I was a notch higher on the Kinsey scale, I used to buy On Our Backs, it's for-lesbians-by-lesbians.

If you happen to be in Chicago, there's a good alternative (non-skeezy) bookstore with classy sex oriented books and magazines (their online selection is weird, don't go by that).

Sadly, On Our Backs went out of business years ago. I'm surprised they still have a web site up, but it doesn't seem to be active.

It's refreshing to see one that seems to be staying afloat. I feel like this experiment--highbrow or hipster feminist smut in glossy print--gets tried again and again and the various magazines always inevitably fold (but then, most mags fold period, so I guess it's not that surprising). Sweet Action was the one I was familiar with in college. On Our Backs is defunct but reminds me too that this sort of thing tends to be more lesbian-centered than straight-girl-ish, and stuff supposedly straight-girl-ish is often just porn for gay guys. It's frustrating trying to find stuff that fills this niche.
