Mat It or Crack It?

Basement remodel / cardio equipment question: old unfinished basement had concrete floors. Down there we have all the usual basement 'stuff', plus a cardio setup with a treadmill. Until now, the treadmill was on rubber mats - but we've installed a new porcelain tile floor...
My partner likes the new floor so much (as do I), that he hates for us to cover it up with the rubber mats that the cardio equipment was sitting on.
The new tile is a strong porcelain (strength rating of "4"??), but I'm worried if we don't continue to use the rubber mats that we'll eventually crack the tile.
Anybody have any experience with this kind of setup?

I'd be more worried about scratching the tile, or, if the equipment has black rubber feet, the rubber marking up the tile.

Best answer: Is there any reason you can't trim the rubber mats so that they don't stick out from the machine too much?

Response by poster: thanks all... you've put my mind at ease. Also, it never occurred to me to just cut the mats down to the size of the treadmill! Excellent...

If the tiles were properly installed directly on top of the concrete, they should be completely unable to move and thus not likely to crack.
