What's a secure place to park in Louisville, KY at or within walking distance to a hotel?

I'm moving cross country and am currenty planning on making my stop for the night in Louisville. Since I'll have all of my belongings in my car I'm concerned about parking it just anywhere. Am I being overly cautious? Sometimes I can't tell...

You're probably overthinking this. Unless you have your Ipod and laptop sitting on the front seat, you're no more likely to have a problem in Louisville than any other mid-sized American city.

That said, there are all kinds of hotels downtown with their own secure garages, including the Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Hampton Inn and Residence Inn, not counting more expensive luxury options like the Brown.

If you're on more of a budget, there are Super 8s and Day Inn options at basically every exit in and out of Louisville, some of which are basically on an island with only an Arbys and a gas station around them.

Best answer: I live in Louisville, mostly Louisville is a pretty safe place to stay, there are a few parts of town you would be better off avoiding but I seriously doubt you'd just wander into those parts. You really would not have to worry about any of your things being messed with there are lots of homeless people downtown but you should not have to worry about them, I've never had problems with them. I would stay in the downtown area, there are hotels with secure parking garages you could stay in over night. Not sure if you plan on staying in a hotel but if you do downtown would be your best bet. If not staying in a hotel I would suggest staying in a walmart parking lot or at a truck stop. There are always people coming and going and I'd imagine you and your belongings would be safe there.

If you have any other questions about specific hotels or anything else feel free to memail i'd be more than willing to help you out.

I live in Louisville. You're being overly cautious. Just don't park it in the ghetto. You'll be able to tell when you're in it.

Best answer: I'd stay at a hotel downtown (Marriott, Hyatt, Galt House) and park there. All of these hotels have secure parking garages that are monitored 24/7. Be forewarned though that non-guests can park in these garages, too, and many do if they're going downtown for concerts, theatre, etc. Since it's a Monday night and the holiday's over, though, it should be relatively quiet. A lot of people here went back to work today.

Also, I honestly don't think you're being overly cautious; you're being reasonably cautious. After all, you have a little more at stake here than a GPS & an iPod.
