Cheap-flight filter: SE Asia to Vancouver? Any suggestions for carriers or cheap flight websites?

Yo MeFi peeps,

My wife and I need to book some one-way flights from SE Asia to Vancouver in late August, or very early September. We'll be in Thailand and Vietnam, but are open to taking a regional flight if the trans-Pacific flights are cheaper from somewhere else in Asia.

The cheapest we can find is United Airlines on Expedia, from Bangkok to Tokyo/Tokyo to Seattle/Seattle to Vancouver for $1012 per person.

We've found cheaper ones on Skyscanner.net, but once you click through to actually book them, they show as not available any more.

Are there any inexpensive carriers or cheap flight aggregator sites we should know about? Is there any city in Asia known for cheap flights to the west coast of North America? Anything like EasyJet in that part of the world? Any other insights?

Thanks!

Just a data point, i found cheap flights on China Airlines (not Air China, there are 2 different airlines) out of Taipei to Vancouver. I was coming from Sydney, but had to transit in Taipei. Not sure if they are aggregated on Skyscanner et.al - their website looks as bad as when I checked it back in 2007. Might be worth a try.

You could fly round trip for that price. Forget Expedia. Those sites are a rip off for international travel. Look at bucket shops in Bangkok.

I found (via flight aggregator wego.com) a Taipei-Tokyo-Vancouver flight on ANA for about US$970 per person, available for booking on Asiatravel.com.

Searching directly on Asiatravel.com, there's an Air Philippines flight out of Manila direct to Vancouver, for about US$895 per person.
