does anyone remember - in german - the rest of a short poem by ernst wichert that begins "wir wissen wann kommt der taifun..."?
as i recall, it was about how one can tell a storm is coming because their neighbors, even before the storm comes, are losing their heads, and the expression, "losing their heads" means the same in german as "losing their roofs."
thanks.
Best answer: jeez, languagehat, that's brilliant, thanks!

der taifun kommt,
er ist noch nicht
