Fixed one wi-fi setup, broke another...

I'm having a problem with wi-fi at my sister's apartment. Everyone's wi-fi was working except one girl's, so I tried to fix it and hers worked. Suddenly everyone else's stopped working...

I am very inexperienced with working with this. I thought I was adding the network to the one girl's setup, but apparently it seems I stole the router and setup a new network altogether and set it up for her, so nobody else's works. And now I can't do anything that works on my sister's computer -- her computer can see the wireless connection and it says it has excellent connectivity, but can't get the internet or anything from it.

Bottom line... pretty helpless here. Any help or ideas? I'll do my best to answer anybody's questions.

Did you change the network name (SSID)? Did you change the DHCP settings or set static addresses? Are the MAC addresses registered, if the network is closed?

One of many step-by-step guides.

Reset the router, give it a brand new SSID and password and start everyone from scratch.

Response by poster: To reset it, you mean to unplug it and plug it back in?

There should be a little hole somewhere on there (usually in the back) that you have to push with a straightened-out paper clip.

Also, hold it for 10 seconds.

A jeweler's screwdriver will also work for inserting into that hole.

fwiw, i've had this problem before when trying to have pcs with vista, xp, and windows 7 all work at the same time. a number of resettings and ssid name changes via the different computers and it finally worked.

Response by poster: Okay, thanks for the help everybody-- I'll try that and see how it goes.

Response by poster: It works! What I had to do was use the "Network Setup Wizard," but it never asked me to set the SSID. It's not protected anymore, but they're happy and they say it works.

How would I go about adding a password to it now and changing the SSID? I'm just glad it's working but I'd still like to know how to work out the rest of it. Thanks for your help, everyone!
