Stupid, Fun, and Simple

Looking for stupid, silly, fun, simple songs for a summer mix. Songs you can mindlessly bob your head to while cruising, mowing the lawn, or strolling down the block on a pleasant summer evening. Songs like The Happy Whistler. What else ya got?

Also, try The Andrews Sisters - most of their output is bubbly and bouncy.

B-52's "Summer of Love". You probably need their whole Greatest Hits album, in fact.

Expanding on TMBG, I'd recommend The Seven Days of the Week (I never go to work), Women and Men, Bangs, The House at the Top of the Tree (it has a circular story similar to the rhyme "there's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza"), First Kiss, Mr. Me, The Guitar, Electric Car...ok, there was a reason elendil71 just said "most of TMBG." Several of these songs are off their kid albums, because those are ridiculously stupid, fun, and simple.

"You Can't Hurry Love," either The Supremes or The Stray Cats, makes me giddy pretty reliably.

I seeded my "mindless" Pandora channel with I'm From Barcelona. All their stuff is inane fun.

You Can Call Me Al also comes to mind.

Home- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, some cheery, early White Stripes, Beach Boys anything, Hot for Teacher - Van Halen, Smokin' in the Boys Room, the Go-Gos, and if you speak Spanish or like cheery melodic Spanish stuff Eres Para Mi and Limon y Sal by Julieta Venegas.

...And say what you like about the tenets of Phish, but at least it's an ethos...

Let's get wrecked on Rolling Rock and stroll down to the sea...

It's not stupid necessarily, but it's one of my go-to, feel-good-no-matter-what-mood-I'm in songs: A Million Dollars by Joel Plaskett.

Almost anything from Fountains of Wayne is good for summer. "it must be summer" in particular.

Seconding anything by Fountains of Wayne. Hey Julie is one of my all time favorite songs, Utopia Parkway is a good summer song too.

- Speech had a great song years back called Clocks In Sync With Mine.
- Ahhhh! Baby's Got Sauce from G. Love.
- Who Put The Bomp by Barry Mann. Or the more rockin' Me First & the Gimme Gimme's version
- Almost all of Rustic Overtones output is summer music to me, but Long Division particularly sounds like summer to me.
- Steve Poltz - Impala

And maybe it goes without saying, but most of the Juno soundtrack. Particularly All I Want Is You.

The epitome of stupid, fun and simple: Accidentally Kelly Street - Frente! (the parody is almost as good - Accidentally Was Released)

Another Frente! song which is still fun and simple but not quite as stupid - Labour of Love.

The Good Life - Weezer

also i work in the wedding industry, and it seems like people universally freak out when they hear "don't stop believin'"but that might be the open bar talking.

And I'm revisiting this thread because I previously forgot to point out that in this part of the world (NW PA, which has some evil, wicked winters) Rusted Root is the true harbinger of spring. Mindless - check! Fun - check! I'm not so sure about stupid, but you'll bob your head and dance that lawn mower about whether it's stupid, intellectual, or somewhere in between. Particularly pay attention to "Ecstasy" and "Send Me On My Way." And also "Big White Bird."
