[NYCfilter] Cheapish Brooklyn hotels or hotel-oid situations?

So, here's the deal. I'm living temporarily in Brooklyn, about to move back home to Seattle. My girlfriend from out there is coming to visit me before I head back, though. Which should be awesome and fun. However, the place I'm living is, although quite lovely, pretty short on privacy -- there's too many people for too few bathrooms and absolutely no soundproofing whatsoever between my room and the improvised bedroom one of my roommates lives in. Like, I can hear him snore, I can hear him type, I can hear him chew.

So, we're thinking about staying in a hotel at least a couple of the days she's out here. She's a bit apprehensive about doing a random craigslist sublet, and as such we're thinking about sweartogod the Holiday Inn Express in Park Slope/Gowanus, just because it's not too expensive and is super close to where I'm living right now. Has anyone stayed there, is it decent, and/or are there better options I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance!

use hotwire.com or priceline.com coupled with biddingfortravel.com to see going rates! :)

Response by poster: Oh -- this might be the thing that causes issues -- we'd prefer if at all possible a place with an actual for reals private bathroom. Though I'm guessing finding that for anything under 200 bucks is going to be a highly speculative proposition...

Funny enough, I just stumbled onto that Holiday Inn last night for the first time. It's in a nice enough neighborhood, at least.

Does it have to be in Brooklyn? Last time I was in NYC I rented an apartment, old-fashioned, high-ceilings, wooden floors, deep bathtub, free wi-fi and cable tv, for $149 a night in Murray Hill.

If you're interested, MeMail me and I'll give you the details.

When I have Brooklyn-bound clients coming in, I put them at Le Jolie.

Le Jolie is odd. You overlook the BQE which is not my idea of romance.

I would head for Jersey City or Hoboken. There is a lovely W in Hoboken and there are always specials. You can also priceline the nicer hotels in Jersey City - I recommend betterbidding.com for crack advice on this (imho biddingfortravel.com went downhill years ago). Both Hoboken and JC are easily accessible and you have the added attraction of the lovely NYC skyline view. Depending on the night, they may be able to find you something in Manhattan in the $150 range, but honestly, I'd just stay in Jersey, you'll get so much more for your money. I did a one-night staycation at the W last summer, checking in the minute I could, and by the time we went home the next day it seemed like we'd been gone for a week.

BE CAREFUL if you respond to "hotel" ads in Craigslist. My neighborhood and environs has had a rash of illegal hotels operating without certificates of occupancy. That is dangerous for you and also could mean the Department of Buildings could show up in the midst of your tryst and clear you out. If it seems too good to be true, it likely is.
