Need help with WordPress

In an earlier form of WP, I could post (publish) a URL and put date/time on it so that it would remain at the top of my blog page. Now, with the latest version of WP, you either publish or you have a draft with time set, but you can not (it seems) publish and at same time put time to be on the page.

Is there any way I can publish a link (URL) on my page and put a date on it so that any later works I publish that day will still keep the earlier dated link where I want it to be, that is, at the top of my page.

Example: I dedicate a link to my son. I want to make sure this heads the page. But under current WP, it seems, either I publish it now and other stuff goes on top of it; or I date it and it does not publish till the time I set for it so that it does not show till late in the day.

How can I date and publsh at same time, as was possible in WP a while back?i

In the Publish box there should be a line that says "Visibility." Click Edit and check the box that says "Stick this post to the front page." That should keep it there even if you make other posts.

I'm not up to speed on the latest version of WP... But you could always tweak the code so that whatever it is that hides pre-published items (which is basically what you're doing, putting a date far in the future so that all current-date posts stay below it) no longer hides them. Obviously, you lose the ability to pre-publish items, but it seems that that's a feature you aren't interested in any way.

Oooh, Nedroid's option looks even better than mine :)

I use the WP-Sticky plugin to keep a post on the top of the front page while other newer posts drop behind it. Once you install the plugin, you can make it an "announcement." Although, you'll have to change it when you no longer want it to stay at top and center.

I've made a "sticky post" via Neroid's suggestions in the latest WP. Easy!

I use the Nedroid method and it works a charm.
