Please don't make me call FIFA

You're going to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Have you received your "FIFA Official Ticket Confirmation" via postal mail?

They've apparently been sent out, and I've yet to receive mine (I'm in the USA). Complicating matters is the fact that I've moved and I've got a forward on my old mailing address.

I'm trying to find out:

1. If other people, particularly in the US, have received their confirmations.
2. Worst case scenario, if I don't receive mine, are they absolutely necessary for picking up tickets?

All I can suss out from the various FAQs on the FIFA site is that you pick up your tickets at self-service kiosks, and you'll need the credit card you used to purchase your tickets to redeem your tickets. In some places it mentions you'll need the confirmation, and in others it doesn't mention them.

Any personal experiences with ticketing for this World Cup in particular are appreciated.

Best answer: I am a US citizen who bought a World Cup ticket online. I am already in Durban, South Africa and freaked out when I got the emails from FIFA saying you needed the official confirmation. But you DO NOT NEED them.

I already picked up my tickets at one of the designated distribution centers. All I did was put the credit card I bought the tickets with into a machine and it spit out the tickets. An employee was even there helping me through the machine but she never asked for any other things. Having the credit card you used to purchase the tickets is sufficient.

And as a background: Before I just went to the distribution center, I had emailed FIFA twice and got either no response or an automated response that didn't answer my question. I finally got ahold of the South African FIFA phone number and they didn't even seem to understand what I meant with when I said "official confirmation" but said should bring my passport, printouts of the online ticket confirmation, and credit card. No one even asked for my passport or confirmation but I would bring those just in case.

Response by poster: chrisalbon: Thanks, that helps a lot. I finally found and called the FIFA number and though the person I talked to also sounded kind of confused, he said I only needed the credit card and my passport.

I've got another month before I leave, so if the confirmation never shows up, I suppose I'm safe.
