Help me save my passwords on Chrome!

Why won't Chrome prompt me to save my passwords on some sites, despite having the Autocomplete = On extension?

I couldn't find anything about this issue in any other AskMe posts, surprisingly, so here goes. I'm a Mac user, and I recently switched to Chrome from Firefox. So far I'm loving it, with one killer exception -- the prompt from Chrome to save my passwords is horribly inconsistent. The main problem I'm having is with LiveJournal -- it's never prompted me to save passwords for any of my accounts, which is a huge hassle for me, since I have multiple accounts and there's no extension similar to LJLogin for Chrome. The username field remembers usernames I've typed in, presumably from form autofill, but doesn't associate them with any passwords.

The "prompt me to save my passwords" option in my Chrome preferences is enabled, and I know it's (partially) working, because it saves my email passwords. I've tried the Autcomplete = On extension, but I'm still not getting a prompt. I tried clearing my cookies, but still nothing. Since Chrome for Mac syncs its password storage with Keychain, I manually entered the passwords and usernames into Keychain to see if that would work, but still nothing. I also tried out the LastPass extension, but I found it to be a bit of a pain to use and more high maintenance than I wanted for my password saving and recovery.

Is there anything I've overlooked here -- something I'm doing wrong? I really enjoy using Chrome and I'd rather not go back to using Firefox, but this password saving business is kind of a dealbreaker given the number of times a day I switch in and out of accounts.

Is it just Chrome? Does Firefox prompt you on the same sites? I use Firefox and I've run across a couple of websites for which the Firefox "Save" prompt doesn't work. Nor do the particular sites' "Remember me" check seem to make a difference.

Response by poster: I never experienced a problem like this with Firefox, no. Even when not using LJLogin, for example, if I was entering a new username into LJ, it would still prompt me for a password save.

Recently fixed in Chromium as issue 28910, so I guess you need to wait for it to be pushed down to Chrome?

i love LastPass. I can use it on all my computers no matter location, OS, browser, etc. I think it's very convenient and very powerful. My advice is give it another try!
