"It's a myth that Noah's flood ever ended- two thirds of the world is still covered by it." Almost certainly a paraphrase on my part, but I can't find the original quote or its source. It probably came from a book about sailing- Meville? Slocum? Bueller?

Best answer: The first boat we read of, floated on an ocean, that with Portuguese vengeance had whelmed a whole world without leaving so much as a widow. That same ocean rolls now; that same ocean destroyed the wrecked ships of last year. Yea, foolish mortals, Noah's flood is not yet subsided; two thirds of the fair world it yet covers.

Response by poster: I thought it was going to be Melville, but damn if my search found it. Thanks so much!
